Christopher Nolan released the teaser trailer for the third and final instalment of his Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises. Ironically, the teaser premiered during Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt. 2, the same movie that beat Nolan’s record for best opening weekend, that he held since 2008 with The Dark Knight. The final movie of the Harry Potter series beat TDK by 10 million dollars, earning 168.6 million dollars for its first box office weekend.
The Dark Knight Rises teaser doesn’t show much, but as we can guess, Batman has retired after the Harvey Dent/Two-Face incident, and Gordon (lying in a hospital bed) prays that the caped crusader returns to save Gotham. We also see that Bane should be the main bad guy, played by Tom Hardy, but the IMDB cast credits Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, so that remains to be seen. Honestly, I hope Catwoman will not have a huge role in this movie, because I frankly think she is one of the less credible bad guys to ever appear in a comic book series. Then again, if Christopher Nolan would do a remake of Bambi, I would still believe that it had a shot to win an Oscar, so he’s definitely able to make a believable Catwoman.
The teaser launched pretty much precisely one year before its release in July 2012, so we have a long wait in front of us to answer all these questions, but this is definitely the movie I’m most looking forward to see next year. Nolan never dissapoints.
