The Dark Knight Rises Prologue

One could easily wonder how can it be possible to top the last instalment in the Batman franchise. With The Dark Knight, Christopher Nolan gave a second life to a character that had lost a lot of credibility in recent years, directed one of the most brilliant villains in modern cinema with Heath Ledger as The Joker, and produced the highest-grossing movie of 2008. With the third and final movie of the trilogy coming out in July 2012, fans expectations are limitless, and it could be easy to deceive them.

Well, rest assured, I don’t think Nolan plans on not living up to its name. I was lucky enough to have tickets to the Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol premiere Thursday night at IMAX, and before the movie, we were treated with The Dark Knight Rises 6-minute-long prologue, in full 70mm IMAX celluloid on Canada’s largest screen.

As epic as the last prologue was with the bank heist scene introducing The Joker, this new preview gives TDK a run for its money right away. I’m not going to spoil surprises here, but let’s just say that you’ll get a nice first look at Bane, the new villain played by Tom Hardy, whose voice can unfortunately be hard to understand because of the mask he’s wearing, in a gut-wrenching, bigger than nature plane-hijacking scene that is sure to make you hang on the edge of your seat.

Even if you’re not into the Mission: Impossible series, I highly recommend you take the time to go see it just to enjoy the 6 minutes of epicness that Christopher Nolan has to offer you as we wait for 2012’s most anticipated film.
